Nagapattinum:
The work on setting up offour fishing harbours in the district would be completed bythis year end, Fisheries Director C Munianathan said today.
Government had decided to set up four fishing harbours inthe district and of this construction work was in progress atPazhayar, Nagore and Akkaraipettai, he told reporters hereafter inspecting the progress of the projects.
As regards the fourth harbour proposed at Tarangambadi,he said silt formation was very high at the estuary and hencethey were analysing suitable technology for advancedconstruction model.
In addition, the Nagapattinam fishing harbour was beingmodernised.
"All the projects will be completed before the end ofthis year," he said adding they would improve the livelihoodof the fishermen.
He said that as per the orders of Chief MinisterJayalalithaa, various projects like construction of fishingharbours, fish landing centres and deepening of the estuarieshad been underataken at various places in the state.
