Erode, Tamil Nadu: The district administration has issued a flood alert to six villages downstream of the Gunderipallam reservoir following heavy rains in the catchment areas.

Officials said the Sathyamangalam and Gobichettipalayam forest areas received heavy rains during the past few days. The dam received good inflows and more than 3,000 cusecs were released, leading to issuing of the flood warning.

However inflow decreased to below 200 cusecs today, but officials said people in low lying areas were asked not to go back to their villages as a precautionary measure.

The dam level is being maintained at 37 feet against its full level of 42 feet.

Meanwhile inflow in Lower Bhavani Project reservoir at Bhavanisagar increased due to good rains in catchment areas.

This morning the level was 53 feet against the full level of 105 feet. There was no discharge.
