Puducherry: Twelve years after receiving theNational gallantry award for saving three children fromdrowning, the persistent efforts of a 23-year-old man tosecure a government job have paid off with Chief Minister NRangasamy himself issuing an appointment order to him.
S Kuppuraman had rescued three students of a governmentschool at nearby Sellipet in 1998 from drowning in a riverduring flash floods. His courageous act won him the nationalgallantry award in 2000.
However, he dropped out of school and started working ina brick kiln at Sellipet to supplement the family income. Hisschool teacher Sri Ram who found out about it, urged him togive representations to the government for a job.
The teacher said this was a good beginning and Kuppuramanwould definitely zoom ahead in his new career.
