Congress leader Ghulam Nabi Azad's visit to the state could lead to the Congress and DMK talking about an alliance for Tamil Nadu assembly elections.
Coimbatore:
Congress leader Ghulam Nabi Azad, the party's Tamil Nadu in-charge, is expected to visit Chennai later this week to discuss with DMK a possible alliance for the coming Assembly polls, after which the high command would take a final call on it, senior party leaders said today.
"Senior Congress leader Ghulam Nabi Azad is expected to arrive at Chennai on February 13 and likely to meet DMK chief M Karunanidhi, following which a
final decision on alliance will be taken by the party high command,"
Tamil Nadu Congress Committee (TNCC) President EVKS Elangovan said.
The party has so far not taken any final decision on the alliance for the polls, National Spokesperson Khushboo said.
DMK had joined hands with Congress in 2004 to face the then Parliamentary polls, but had snapped ties with it in 2013 on the Sri Lankan Tamils issue.
To a query on the recently formed four-party Peoples Welfare Front, he claimed it was functioning like the 'B' team of AIADMK and would help the ruling party in the polls.
