Government aims at making Puducherry a hut free union territory

Puducherry: Puducherry Chief Minister N Rangasamy has said the administration is keen to ensure that Puducherry emerged as a 'hut free union territory' by the end of the 12th plan (2012-2017).

Honouring state freedom fighters at a function on the eve of 63rd republic day here yesterday, he said the government had decided to enhance the subsidy for converting huts into concrete houses from present Rs 1 lakh to Rs 2 lakhs.

Families of the downtrodden would be sanctioned Rs 4 lakhs against Rs 2 lakhs now available for construction of concrete structures, he said.

The housing scheme had been implemented through Slum Clearance Board, he said.

He also said that the government would sanction Rs 10,000 to enable the families of the freedom fighters to meet expenditure for funeral at the death of the freedom fighter
