Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala Cultural Affairs Minister K C Joseph on Sunday said there is no need for any anxiety over implementation of Malayalam Language Act and the government is committed to implement it at the earliest.
"Nobody is against the Malayalam Language Act and there is no need for any anxiety regarding its implementation," he told reporters on the sidelines of the Kerala Formation Day celebrations, organised by state Cultural Department here.
"The draft bill regarding the Malayalam Language Act had come up before the cabinet for consideration. There was a demand for detailed examination following suggestions for changes in the Bill. Necessary action will be taken soon after examining the draft," Joseph said.
He said this in view of a section of writers and cultural personalities who had criticised the Congress-led UDF government for the delay in implementing the much touted Malayalam Language Act, which should be envisaged to make learning of Malayalam compulsory at various levels of education.
Earlier, Governor Justice (Rtd) P Sathasivam inaugurated the government's 'Kerala Piravi' (Kerala Formation Day) celebrations at Vyloppilli Samskriti Bhavan.
In his Kerala Piravi message, the Governor said "I hope that the celebrations will further strengthen the bond of brotherhood and communal amity that has been acclaimed as Kerala's unique mark, the world over.
