Puducherry:
The Puducherry Administration has called upon the industrial enterprises in the Union Territory to develop a specific action plan under Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) that ensures a shift from an "ad hoc approach of making mere contributions or sanction of donations" to a long term "sustainable development".
The Department of Industries and Commerce of Puducherry government has come out with policy guidelines for the industries to enable them to take up activities under CSR in the Union Territory.
An official release said today that the activities of the industrial houses under CSR should supplement the initiatives of the government to achieve skill development, entrepreneurship proficiency and generation of employment in close association with the local institutions and people.
The activities of the industries under CSR should extend beyond philanthropic activities and achieve integration of social and business goals, it said.
Industrial enterprises should develop specific strategies that ensured long term impact with a shift from "casual approach to the project-based accountability" approach.
The industrial enterprises should also ink a Memorandum of Understanding in respect of their CSR activities with the Secretary to the Department of Industries and Commerce after getting approval of the seven-member CSR Committee headed by the Puducherry Chief Minister.
The purpose of the Committee is "to approve the projects and programmes of the industries sought to be launched under CSR". Suitable professionals, officials and other experts would be appointed to monitor the implementation of the projects, the release said.
The activities suggested by the Union Heavy Industries and Public Enterprises could be taken as guidelines by the committee to decide suitable activities for the industries in Puducherry under CSR, it said.
