Issue of patta stayed

Madurai: Issue of patta to a person has been stayed after the District Collector sought its cancellationfollowing alleged irregularities in the allotment.

According to a release from Collector U.Sagayam, the District Revenue Officer had ordered issue of patta for 0.95hectares,described in the land record as "Purampuhal" (Land acquired for laying bypass road) in Tiruparankunram taluk toone P.Karmegam, who had made a false claim that the land belonged to his ancestors.

The Collector said the land originally belonged to Lord Muruga temple at Tiruparankunram district, and it was acquiredfor laying the bypass road in 1955.Since then it was clearly mentioned in the revenue record as government bypass roadsite. However, for reasons not known, the patta for the land had been issued to Karmegam, which was an irregularityallegedly committed by the DRO.

The Collector, after verifying the records, asked the Commissioner for Land Adminstration to cancel the allotment.

The CLA stayed the issue of patta to Karmegam, pending enquiry.
