Rich tributes were paid to AIADMK founder and former Chief Minister MG Ramachandran in Chennai by party supremo J Jayalalithaa and senior party leaders on his 99th birth anniversary today.
Jayalalithaa paid floral tributes to the statue of Ramachandran, popularly known as MGR and also released the birthday souvenir on the occasion, a party release said.
Senior AIADMK Ministers, Parliamentarians, lawmakers, representatives of MGR Mandram Peravai and a host of party functionaries participated in the function.
Later, the Chief Minister also distributed sweets to hundreds of party workers present at the venue, it said.
Yesterday, in her message as part of the birth anniversary celebrations, Jayalalithaa had urged party workers to "hand her" an unprecedented victory in the coming assembly polls by preparing for operations "right away".
"AIADMK should secure a win in the (coming) elections like one not witnessed in the earlier polls; a win that no other political movement in Indian history has secured.
Such a victory will add to the fame of Puratchi Thalaivar (Revolutionary Leader-MGR)," she had said.
