Coimbatore: To celebrate the swearing in of AIADMK Supremo Jayalalithaa as Chief Minister for the sixth time, an auto driver Coimbatore on Monday offered his service by taking passengers for one rupee to any place in the city.
The 45-year old Mathivanan is running the auto rickshaw for the last 25 years and is an ardent fan of late chief minister M G Ramachandran, who founded AIADMK.
After MGR, he continued his loyalty to AIADMK and became a fan of Jayalalithaa and made her as his leader, Mathivanan told reporters.
As part of the celebrations of the victory of his party for second time in succession, he decided to come out with a novel idea of taking the passengers for one rupee any where in the city, he said.
For this, he pasted a sticker on his auto stating that only Rupee one will be charged today (Monday) for travelling in this vehicle as part of Jayalalithaa taking charge as chief minister for sixth time.
Over 80 passengers have travelled in the auto, from Lakshmi Mills Junction to Railway Station to Ondipudur to Nehru Stadium, Mathivanan said.
