Chennai:
DMK Chief M Karunanidhi's youngest son M K Tamilarasu is campaigning for his father these days, riding a bullock cart in the Tiruvarur constituency. The 93-year-old veteran is seeking a second term from the constituency.
On Thursday, as Mr Karunanidhi shared the stage with Congress Chief Sonia Gandhi campaigning for the alliance's candidates in Chennai, Mr Tamilarasu was busy reaching out to voters in his father's constituency, travelling in a bullock cart. The constituency is dominated by farmers who often use the bullock cart to get from one place to another.
Mr Tamilarasu however did not interact with the media. T Ramakrishnan, a farmer, said "This will strike a chord with the farming community. We want Karunanidhi to win." But, S Panneer Selvam, also a farmer was dismissive of the former chief minister and his son. "This is a drama. None would visit us after they win".
In the last election, Mr Karunanidhi had won the seat with a margin of around 50,000 votes. With the state seeing a five-cornered contest, the party doesn't want to take any chances. Votes will be polled in Tamil Nadu on May 16.
