New Delhi: A Puducherry-based Tamil activist today went on a hunger strike in Delhi demanding the Centre to direct the Delhi government to give gold medals for six Tamil scholars, who were awarded the highest literary award, five years ago.
According to N Nandhivarman, a total of six Tamil scholars were conferred with the 'Tamilmaamani' award, the highest literary award by the Puducherry Government in 2010.
"Though we have received the citation and cash award, gold medal was not given to us. Despite repeated reminders to the Puducherry Government, authorities are yet to provide the gold medal, which is a symbol of honour," he alleged.
Nandhivarman sought the Ministry of Home Affairs to intervene into the issue and direct the Government of Puducherry for the purpose.
