Madurai: The Madras High Court has ordered a notice to officials, including the Revenue Secretary, on a PIL by Puthia Tamizhagam leader S Krishnaswamy seeking to remove encroachments in water bodies, waterways and government poramboke land in Tuticorin district.

The petitioner also sought to restore them as per the 1912 Settlement Records and putting up boundaries and sign boards to prevent any further encroachment.

He sought to invoke Goondas Act against the encroachers responsible for the inundation of the housing colonies.

Justices V Ramasubramanian and N Kirubakaran ordered notice to the Revenue Secretary seeking his reply in two weeks.
