Madurai:
Police in Madurai district on Friday arrested a 31-year-old man for allegedly sexually abusing his 12-year-old daughter after tying a 'mangalsutra' and claiming that she was his second wife.
The accused had been alleged to have sexually abused his daughter for nearly a year. His sister-in-law alerted the child helpline following which he was arrested.
He had coerced his wife to not divulge the abuse to anyone.
The Superintendent of Police in Madurai, Mr Vijayendra Bidari, said "We've booked him under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences. Medical examination has proved sexual abuse. The minor girl is being looked after by the Child Welfare Committee".
