Puducherry: In an extremely barbaric incident last night, a teen was hacked, allegedly by a gang that later flung his severed head into a police station in Tamil Nadu. In CCTV footage, two bikers stop at the entrance, throw the head and drive off into the night. Based on the footage, two suspects have been arrested and the hunt is on for a third.
The teenager was been killed by a gang involved in chain-snatching and bike stealing, police said. Investigators say the victim Suvedan's associates are behind bars in a chain snatching case. He had planned to kill a rival gang leader Vinod, but Vinod's gang killed him first. Suvedan had suspected it was Vinod who informed police about his gang members' crime that landed them in jail, they added.
The police say he was killed near a lake in neighbouring Puducherry. After beheading him, the killers rode on a bike with the head wrapped in a gunny bag to the police station.
The headless body was later found in the lake, which is around three km from the police station where the head was thrown.
"By beheading, Vinod's aim was to gain authority over other gangs, to keep them scared. Secondly by dropping the severed head at a Tamil Nadu police station Vinod thought the investigation would go to Tamil Nadu police. He thought investigation would be soft under them. But we would only investigate as the murder took place in Puducherry," said Rajiv Ranjan, SSP Law and Order, Puducherry.
The arrested men are all in their early twenties, say the police.
