Chennai: Protesting against the Narendra Modi government's 'betrayal' of Tamil Nadu on the Cauvery River dispute issue involving Karnataka, MDMK chief Vaiko today said that a human chain protest will be held in Thanjavur on April 7.
The 'Cauvery Protection Movement' will hold the protest with a three point agenda of opposing the Centre on the issues of Karnataka's efforts to construct check dams across river Cauvery at Mekadatu, the Coal Bed Methane (CBM) project covering Thanjavur and Sivaganga and the NDA's controversial Land Acquisition Act, he said in a statement.
While the Centre was insisting that it had not permitted Karnataka to construct new check dams across Cauvery, it was however 'discreetly encouraging' it to go ahead with the same, he alleged.
He claimed that PM Modi was aware of a meeting held at the residence of Union Minister H Ananthakumar in December where his cabinet colleagues Sadananda Gowda and Prakash Javadekar had participated to discuss construction of check dams even as tenders had been issued and preparations for construction activities were on.
"A human chain protest will be held in Thanjavur by the Cauvery Protection Movement on April 7 to express opposition to the betrayal of the Narendra Modi government to Tamil Nadu on the Cauvery issue," besides the CBM and the 'unjust' Land Acquisition act, he said.
