Puducherry: National Voters Day was celebrated in the union territory with Lieutenant Governor Dr Iqbal Singh distributing Electoral Photo Identity Cards (EPICs) to newly enrolled voters here today.
He also released a document entitled 'People's Mandate' at the celebration. It related to the details of the polling for the territorial Assembly held in May 2011.
A total of 12,037 new voters were enrolled through a drive conducted by the Elections Department in the whole of the Union Territory.
The Union Territory which has a total of 30 Assembly constituencies has a voters strength of 8,25,058 electors.
A voters pledge was also administered on the occasion to the new voters.
