Chennai: A senior official of the Integral Coach Factory in Chennai has landed in controversy after he allegedly used a separate railway saloon for his personal work with the CBI holding an inquiry.

The senior official deployed the saloon and got it attached to the Tiruchirappalli Howrah Superfast Express train for transporting household articles to West Bengal.

On a tip-off that the official was "transporting some thing which needs to be probed," a team of CBI's Anti- Corruption Bureau detached the saloon last night from the Express train and searched the compartment, official sources told PTI, adding the train proceeded without the saloon.

It was confirmed that the official was transporting only his personal utilities and household articles and there was nothing else in it, the sources said.

They said usually such a saloon was used for official purposes. They said the probe agency was examining the matter to ascertain if any irregularity has been committed by the official by seeking to transport personal things on a saloon. The CBI has also questioned the official.

ICF is a premier production unit of Indian Railways manufacturing railway passenger coaches. A saloon usually has all amenities including a kitchen and comprises rooms including ones for drawing and dining.
