Election Commission said it has recovered over Rs 6 lakh cash in the by-poll boundSanakarankovil (SC) assembly constituency in Tamil Nadu.
Static surveillance team had recovered Rs 6.27 lakh on February 23 and 24 from different areas in the constituency,Chief Electoral Officer Praveen Kumar said.
The maximum seizure was Rs 2.89 lakh at Chinnakovilankulam police station limits, he said in a release.
"The above cases were referred to Income Tax department. Cases have been registered in the police station concerned," he said.
The by-election was necessitated in the constituency following the death of AIADMK Minister C Karuppasamy lastyear. Four major Dravidian parties - AIADMK, DMK, DMDK and MDMK - have fielded their candidates making it amulti-cornered contest.
