Floral tributes were paid to rationalist leader Periyar EV Ramasamy on his 137th birth anniversary by Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayalalithaa, DMK chief Karunanidhi and a host of other leaders of various political parties.
Ms Jayalalithaa, Mr Karunanidhi, his son and party treasurer MK Stalin paid floral tributes at a portrait of Periyar E V Ramasamy in Chennai.
Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi tweeted:
Periyar (1879-1973), was a rationalist leader and fountain of Dravidian ideology who led Dravidian Movement in Tamil Nadu championing the cause of subaltern classes.
