Colombo, Sri Lanka:
Sixteen Indian fishermen were arrested on Tuesday after they illegally entered the waters off northern Sri Lanka, a navy official said.
Navy spokesperson Indika Silva told news agency Xinhua that three fishing boats were also seized and the fishermen were handed over to the fisheries department in Jaffna.
This are the first arrests since Sri Lankan officials released all the Indian fishermen last month.
Several talks to resolve the Indo-Sri Lanka fishing row have resulted in a deadlock. Fishermen from both sides are often arrested for entering each other's waters.
