Chennai: Heavy rains in Erode district of Tamil Nadu claimed a life of a student on Monday. The hut of Raja, a diploma student, had collapsed due to heavy rains and flash floods.
At least fifty houses got inundated due to flash floods after a blockade under a culvert at Keerippallam. Areas around Gobichettipalayam had received 6 cm rain on Monday.
District Collector Dr S Prabhakar said, "Our officials swung into action and cleared the blockade. Now there is smooth flow of water. We did not evacuate anyone."
However, local people said around three hundred houses are still flooded in the area. An angry resident said, "This happens every time it rains. Our families are on the streets. We don't know what happens to the funds the municipality allots every year."
