Subsidy under Traffic Improvement Project hiked

Chennai: Tamil Nadu government today increased the subsidy under the Traffic Improvement Project as part of decongesting roads in the state.

Subsidy allotments to corporations have been increased to Rs one crore from the earlier Rs 50 lakh and Rs 50 lakh to municipalities from the earlier Rs 25 lakh, it said.

This will benefit Local bodies as they have been drawing funds upto 75 per cent for projects from the Town and Country Planning Development Fund and managing the rest by themselves, it said.

The Traffic Improvement project is being implemented under the Town and Country Planning Development Fund.

The funds would be used to install street lights, broaden roads, streets, bridges and over bridges, among others, it said, adding, the increase in subsidy was made after eight years.
