Chennai:
Announcing various initiatives for the labour sector, Tamil Nadu government today allocated about Rs 20 crore, including Rs 40 lakh towards establishing an institute to create trainers and a state skill registry.
Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa allocated Rs 20.20 crore for this purpose while recognising the fact that labour development was key to economic growth.
Around 50,000 unemployed youth and students of Government and aided Arts and Sciences Colleges will be covered under different skill development and softskill training programmes, an official release said.
Further, a training centre of international standards will be constructed with private participation to impart training in areas pertaining to air and shipping industries and the manufacturing sector, it said.
Jayalalithaa also announced increasing monthly financial assistance from Rs 250 to Rs 500 for former child labourers now pursuing education, which will benefit 317 persons and incur a sum of Rs 19.02 lakh on the government, the release said, adding these measures would help in developing the state's human resources.
