Chennai: Tamil Nadu government is working towards producing around 183 MW of electricity from bagasse acquired from 12 sugar mills in the state from February next, State Industries Minister P Thangamani said on Wednesday.
He was replying to a question from K Alaguvelu (AIADMK) in the state assembly.
Alaguvelu had asked whether the government had any proposal to generate electricity from bagasse obtained from co-operative sugar mills in his Kallakurichi constituency.
Bagasse, a fibrous matter that remains after the juice is crushed from sugarcane, is also used as biofuel.
