Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayalalithaa today announced operation of 11,959 special buses to help people commute to their native places for Diwali festival which falls on November 10.
She has also ordered immediate action if complaints alleging collection of high passenger fares were received against omni buses.
Between November 6 and 9, 11,959 special buses would be operated and an equal number of buses from November 10 till 16, she said in an official release in Chennai.
The special buses are to help people celebrate Diwali in their native places and to return to their places of work after the festival.
Such arrangements were also made in the previous four years, she said.
"If higher fares are collected in omni buses, general public can call up 044-24794709 and lodge complaints."
Special buses would operate from and to all important towns and cities in Tamil Nadu including Koyambedu Moffusil Bus terminus in Chennai.
