Chennai: The late night raids at former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayalalithaa's Poes Garden residence in Chennai on Friday has netted them original documents of shell companies allegedly floated by VK Sasikala's family after demonetization, income tax officials claimed. They said they are also examining the contents in two computers and six pen drives that they've recovered from two rooms of Sasikala and the office of Jayalalithaa's secretary Poongundran.
However, Sasikala's nephew and deputy general secretary of AIADMK, TTV Dinakaran blamed the Centre for the raids. He said, "Whoever is in charge of the Income Tax department is behind this. It's politically motivated. It is strongly condemnable."
While the court would decide the legality, politically, these raids are seen as the BJP's attempt to save the EPS government by turning the heat on the Sasikala camp. The national party, however, denies this.
