Teacher Arrested for Allegedly Thrashing Students for Failing Test in Tamil Nadu's Dindigul

Furious over his students failing in a test, a teacher of a local school allegedly thrashed 45 of them, including 15 girls, with a bamboo stick following which he was arrested after a complaint was lodged, police said today.

Chemistry teacher, Anthony, got irked as all students, barring two or there, got single digit marks in the test conducted by him yesterday.

Late in the evening, the students were allegedly asked to stand in a row, police said, adding, he thrashed them.

Several students had bruises on their back, they said.

Some students, who were seriously injured, fainted and were taken to a hospital, police said.

The management of the government aided school at Kodaikanal informed police after parents of girl students demanded the teacher's arrest. They locked the teacher in a room to protect him from the parents' fury, they alleged.

Parents thrashed the teacher as was being taken by police today.

A case has been registered against the teacher for allegedly beating the students, police said, adding, they would register the case against those who assaulted him if he gave a complaint.
