Three held for media producer's murder

Chennai: The city police arrested three persons in connection with the murder of a 43-year-old former production department executive of a well-known media house in Vadapalani on Friday. Viji Kuttan (43) of Azhagiri Nagar main road, Vadapalani was working in the production department of a well-known media house and after it closed down, police said he later began doing freelance production work in other media houses. At times, he had borrowed money from others, police said.

Police sources said Viji had borrowed 30,000 for his friend Melvin from one of his colleagues Raja. Since Melvin did not return the money, Raja's brother-in-law Mahi alias Maheshwaran, along with two others - Rajesh and Bhupathy - would often threaten Viji with dire consequences if he did not get the money.

On Friday night, Mahi had called Viji over the phone and had asked him to come out of his house. Police said after some time, Viji's wife Rajarajeshwari also went out of the house and saw Mahi and the two others bind her husband's hand and stab him in his abdomen, chest and hip.

The three persons fled after she raised an alarm. Injured Viji was declared brought dead when he was taken to a hospital, police said. Following a complaint from Viji's wife, police arrested the three persons.
