Madurai: An Improvised Explosive Device, packed in a tiffin box, exploded on Vaigai river bank here setting ablaze a stationary lorry, police said today.
The IED, which exploded last night at around 10 pm, was not a powerful one and no one was injured in the incident, they said.
The vehicle was partially damaged. It was not known why the private lorry, which was parked near the river bank, was targeted.
Police suspect that some unidentified persons must have thrown the 'tiffin bomb' at the lorry or placed it under the vehicle.
In the last ten years, police have recovered five 'tiffin bombs' in Madurai city and rural areas.
