Chennai:
Lauding steps taken by the Government in the health sector, Tamil Nadu Governor K Rosaiah today advocated a coordinated effort to reach medical facilities to the people at door-steps.
"The Super Speciality hospitals, doctors, Non-Governmental Organisations and the Government should join hands to take health care to the doorsteps of the people", he said inaugurating the 55th Anniversary of city based Agarwal Eye Hospital, here.
Rosaiah, who also launched the Glued Intraocular Lens Department at the hospital, said the people in rural areas should be sensitised on eye-care.
"Tamil Nadu has been a fore runner in health-care particularly in ophthalmology. It houses many of the premier eye institutes from where aspiring ophthalmologists with specialised skills and advanced technology pass out and serve different parts of the country and abroad", he said.
The Governor also said it was high time that ophthalmic hospitals, educational institutions and parents work in close coordination to detect the vision problems faced by the children at an early stage", he said.
He appreciated the Agarwal Hospital for serving 55 schools with free eye screening camps.
