Tourism projects to get boos during twelth plan in Puducherry

Puducherry: Puducherry government has drawn up a Rs 750 crore plan to develop infrastructures in tourism sector during the 12th plan, Lieutenant Governor Dr Iqbal Singh said today.

In his message on the occasion of Republic Day, he said that the cyclone Thane had caused severe damage to tourism infrastructure here and the administration has initiated comprehensive developmental project to take on the damages.

"Puducherry will soon emerge as a preferred destination for both domestic and international tourists", he said.

Highlighting the programmes evolved and implemented by various departments the Lieutenant Governor said that interest free crop loans would be provided to all farmers through Primary Agricultural Cooperative Credit Societies to benefit 5000 farmers.

Planning Commission had earmarked Rs 2750 crores for the2011-2012 fiscal for Puducherry and a substantial part of the fund was being used to improve the socio economic status of the people of Puducherry and for infrastructure facilities.

Puducherry administration would set up a multi product Special Economic Zone by converting the Industrial Growth Centre in Karaikal. Formal approval of the Central government had been obtained for the project, the Lieutenant Governor said.
