Madurai:
The Madurai bench of Madras High court will get two more judges next month to take its strengthto 14, according to Chief Justice of Madras High Court M Yusuf Eqbal.
Participating at a hurriedly convened meeting of the Bench and Bar, he told them he was unable todepute more judges for want of bungalows in the court complex.
Only 12 court halls and 12 bungalows for judges were built when the Bench was inaugurated in July 2004. Since 2007, the court has been repeatedly requesting the government forfunds to construct more number court buildings and bungalows.
A proposal was also sent to build additional chambers for lawyers.
Four rooms in the administrative block were converted into court halls.
For want of bungalows, some judges had to stay in the VIP guest house.
Lawyers present at the meet said the CJ had assured them he would consider their other grievances with regard torecommending the names of lawyers practising in the Bench for elevation to the post of judges.
