Cuddalore: More than 1,000 residents of a village in Cuddalore district, which bore the brunt of cyclone Thane in December last, staged a road roko on the Vidudhachalam-Chennai road yesterday alleging relief amounts had not been paid to a majority of households in the region.
Uma Maheswari, president of the Village Women's Association of Pudukuppam village, said compensation amount had been paid to only 160 of the 600 households in the village that had been damaged in the cyclone. She also alleged irregularities in preparing the list of beneficiaries of cyclone relief.
Even as traffic was affected for more than an hour, Virudhachalam Tahsildar, Prabhakaran, rushed to the spot and promised to distribute compensation for all the houses. The protestors withdrew their agitation following the assurance.
