A 45-year-old woman sub-inspector allegedly committed suicide by consuming poisonous cow dung powder at her house in Annur, police said on Tuesday.
Hemalatha returned home around 7 pm on Monday after taking part in an operation against encroachment and sometime later, she allegedly consumed the powder and fainted, the police said.
Her 17-year-old son raised an alarm and some neighbours took her to a private hospital at Annur. After first-aid, she was being shifted to another hospital but died en route late on Tuesday night, police said.
