Coimbatore: A 45-year-old woman sub-inspector allegedly committed suicide by consuming poisonous cow dung powder at her house in Annur, police said on Tuesday.
Hemalatha returned home around 7 pm on Monday after taking part in an operation against encroachment and sometime later, she allegedly consumed the powder and fainted, the police said.
Her 17-year-old son raised an alarm and some neighbours took her to a private hospital at Annur. After first-aid, she was being shifted to another hospital but died en route late on Tuesday night, police said.
According to the police, investigations are on to ascertain the reason behind her taking the extreme step.
