A young woman has been raped allegedly by two men claiming to be policemen, in the Sivaganga District of Tamil Nadu.
According to police sources, the woman was in the company of a male friend in a forest area near the town of Karaikudi. The two men, claiming to be policemen, took her away on a motorcycle, saying their "officer" wanted to enquire certain things of her. They had dropped her back near the bus stand around 4:30 in the morning, after sexually assaulting her.
District police had launched a combing operation at night after her male friend alerted the night patrol police, and no arrests have been made. "We are continuing our combing operation. We have some leads," said a police officer.
Last year, a college student too had alleged that she had been raped by a man posing as a policeman. This had happened near Chennai, in similar circumstances.
