Working hours extended in schools

Theni: Working hours of the elementary and middle schools have been extended by 30 minutes till 4.40 pm, a government circular said here today.

The time has been extended from the present 4.10 pm to complete the portions as the "Uniform System of Education", drawn up by the previous DMK government, had been implemented only months after reopening of the schools following the state government taking the matter to court.

Some teachers were, however, objecting to the extension of time, as, according to them, the children were finding it difficult to cope with such long working hours.
