Sangareddy, Telangana: A three-year-old boy today fell into an open defunct bore well in Pulkal mandal of Medak district.
The incident occurred this morning in Bommareddi Gudem village when Rakesh, child of daily wager, was playing near the field where his parents were working, Sub-Inspector Satyanarayana of Pulkal police station said.
He slipped into the borewell which had not been covered despite not being in use, he said.
At about 8:45 am, the boy's mother realised that he was missing, following which the couple searched for him and found that he has fallen into the bore well, he said.
Police, Revenue, Women and Child Development officials, along with a medical team, arrived at the spot after receiving information and started rescue operations, he said.
The rescue team estimated that the child to be lying at a depth of 40 feet and is supplying oxygen to him through pipes, he said.
The land around the borewell is being dug to reach the boy, he added.
