Anti-Harassment 'SHE Team' to Operate All Over Telangana Now

Telangana police said on Wednesday that the roving 'SHE Team,' which keep an eye on eve-teasers would start functioning in every district of the state from Wednesday, following the encouraging results in Hyderabad.

The officers of 'SHE Team', who are in civil dress, are deployed near colleges and other public places.

"The initiative has been successful in Hyderabad and Cyberabad Police Commissionerate limits. It is going to be expanded to entire state from today (Wednesday)," Additional Director General of Police (CID) Satyanarain said.

Hyderabad police has set up 'SHE Team' to crack down on eve-teasers and stalkers last October.

"We believe these teams have created good impact in Hyderabad and Cyberabad by curbing eve-teasing and harassment. There is a lot of deterrence. Women are coming forward to complain," Satyanarain said, talking to reporters.

Swathi Lakra, a senior police officer, said, "Hyderabad police have given training to these district-level teams."

Asked about self-defence training for girls, the senior police officer said, "Yes, it is going on. We are encouraging the colleges to start training classes and many colleges have held such classes."

Around 300 cases have been registered by SHE Team in Hyderabad and Cyberabad. As many as 33 offenders were sentenced to jail by courts, while some others were fined, Ms Lakra said.

Juvenile offenders are counselled and made to participate in anti-eve teasing campaign.

A single SHE Team consists of a male or female sub-inspector, a woman police constable and three police constables who carry hidden cameras for video recording.
