Centre to Release Telangana Funds Attached by Income Tax Department: Venkaiah Naidu

New Delhii: Union Urban Development Minister M Venkaiah Naidu today said that Finance Minister Arun Jaitley has assured that steps would be taken to release the Rs 1,250 crore of Telangana government attached by the Income Tax department.

According to a statement from the Union Urban Development Minister's Office, Mr Naidu today spoke to Mr Jaitley about an amount of Rs 1,250 crore that was attached by the Income Tax department from the Telangana state treasury for dues receivable from beverage corporation of united Andhra Pradesh.

Mr Naidu requested the Finance Minister that the above amount should be returned at the earliest keeping in view the dire need of funds for the state for welfare schemes and programs.

Mr Naidu also said that the taxes due to be settled separately, the statement said.

"The Finance Minister assured Naidu that this will be considered positively," the statement said.
