Telangana : A 64-year-old man who has not been receiving his old age pension slashed his tongue as a mark of protest at the Telangana Secretariat on Tuesday.
Sources said Raju, a resident of Suraram in Medak district, was seen arguing with one of the officials in the C-Block of the Secretariat in the evening. Soon after, he came outside and slashed at his tongue with a blade.
He was rushed to the hospital, where doctors said the injury to his tongue, which is not very deep, was being treated and he was stable.
Raja had suffered burn injuries and had subsequently applied for pension under the disabled category but it had not been sanctioned, reported news agency Press Trust of India.
An investigation is on into the case, the police said.
