PM Narendra Modi being recieved by Governor and Chief Minister of Telangana.
Telangana:
The Prime Minister's visit to the nation's youngest state - made on the heels of his Friday's meeting with Andhra Pradesh chief minister Chandrababu Naidu - was marked by a red carpet welcome from Chief Minister K Chandrasekhara Rao.
Hundreds of hoardings with welcome messages for PM Modi showed that Telangana spared no effort to make this an impressive show.
Mr Rao - who had earlier made it clear that he was not averse to ties with the BJP -accompanied PM Modi to his home constituency Gajwel in a chopper ride.
PM Modi spent a little over four hours in Telangana, during which he launched Mission Bhageeratha - the prestigious drinking water project. A power project, a fertiliser plant and a health university were inaugurated by remote control.
The BJP leadership at the centre can consider the TRS a natural ally for various reasons. Both parties favoured separate Telangana. KCR and his party also kept a safe distance during the Rohith Vemula agitation at Hyderabad's central university.
But the Telangana BJP may not fully approve of a political alliance with the TRS as they see themselves emerging as an opposition party, considering the TDP and Congress are in tatters in Telangana.
To ensure the ruling TRS did not corner all the glory during PM Modi's visit, the Telangana BJP organised a public meeting. The intention was to project itself as the principal opposition force in Telangana.
While Telangana wants central assistance for several of its projects and KCR is also eyeing a political friendship with Modi, Chandrababu Naidu is banking on the Prime Minister to deliver on his promise of special category status to Andhra Pradesh.
On Friday, shortly after lawmakers of Mr Naidu's party, the TDP, had submitted a memorandum telling PM Modi that if special category status was not granted to Andhra Pradesh, there could be a backlash from the people and affect the alliance at the centre.
