Telangana Judges On Strike Over Appointments Return To Work

Lawyers and judges had gone on a strike in Telangana demanding bifurcation of the High Court.

Hyderabad: Telangana judges started returning to work today after the state governor ESL Narasimhan, Chief Justice of India TS Thakur and the acting Chief Justice of the Hyderabad High Court asked them to do so and cancelled their leave.

They had all applied for casual leave for 15 days on June 28 to protest against the suspension of 11 lower court judges by the High Court.

The High Court had suspended 11 judicial officers on disciplinary grounds following Telangana Judges
Association agitation against the provisional allocation of judicial officers.

This led to about 200 judges in lower courts in Telangana going on "mass leave" for 15 days on June 28.

The lower court judges are protesting appointment of the judges who hail from Andhra Pradesh to the courts in Telangana after the creation of the Telangana state even though there was vacancy in Andhra Pradesh.

The Judges' association said they were resuming work unconditionally they wanted the suspension of 11 judges revoked and for their leave to be regularised without punitive action.
