Hyderabad:
Continuing its winning spree since it rode to power in the 2014 Legislative Assembly elections, the ruling TRS today wrested Narayanakhed Assembly seat in Medak district in Telangana from Congress with a massive margin of over 53,625 votes.
TRS candidate Bhupal Reddy polled 93,076 votes, while Congress candidate P Sanjeeva Reddy secured 39,451 votes and the TDP nominee Vijaypal Reddy, brother of Bhupal Reddy, got only 14,787 votes.
The bypoll in the segment, considered a Congress bastion, was necessitated due to the death Mr Sanjeeva Reddy's father P Kishta Reddy.
Thanking people, TRS chief and Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao said, "I convey my gratitude to the people of Narayankhed who scripted a new history".
The victory comes close on the heels of bypoll to Warangal Lok Sabha seat, where TRS registered a massive win.
The party also had secured a landslide win in the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation polls, by bagging 99 seats in the 150-member civic body.
"The victory in the bypoll is a birthday gift to the Chief Minister," said Irrigation Minister T Harish Rao, who led the party campaign in Narayankhed.
Mr Harish Rao, KCR's nephew, promised to initiate steps for faster development of the Narayanakhed Assembly constituency.
Mr Bhupal Reddy also thanked the voters and promised to fulfil the promises made to them.
Speaking to reporters, Deputy Speaker of Legislative Assembly and TRS leader Padma Devender Reddy and TRS lawmaker from Medak Prabhakar Reddy, who played a key role in TRS campaign, said the victory is a vote for the development efforts of the TRS government and the chief minister.
