Malampuzha, Kerala: The outgoing Kerala Chief Minister VS Achuthanandan, whose Left Democratic Front (LDF) lost power to the Congress-led United Democratic Front (UDF) in the state assembly polls, said they would now function as a "tough opposition" working for people's benefit.
"We will function as a very tough opposition with the only objective of doing good for the people," Achuthanandan told reporters here.
The UDF has won 72 seats and the LDF 68 seats in the 140-member Kerala assembly.
"Even though we are the single largest party in the assembly, we will not cobble up a government because we do not have the majority. Tomorrow morning I will submit my resignation to the governor and we will see what he says," said Achuthanandan.
Achuthanandan made a hat-trick of victories from the Malampuzha constituency with his margin going up to 23,187 votes as compared to the 20,017 votes in the 2006 polls.
He defended the record of his government.
"In the history of the state, it is the first time that there was no anti-incumbency wave. I worked hard for the people and now, sitting in the opposition, will do the same," he said.
Asked if he would be the leader of opposition, he said: "Such things will all be decided later."
