Thiruvananthapuram: Elections to three Rajya Sabha seats in Kerala will be held on Monday, with four candidates in the fray.
The ruling Congress-led United Democratic Front (UDF) is confident of ensuring the victory of at least two of its candidates.
Things have become complicated to the UDF as the Left Democratic Front (LDF) has fielded two candidates.
If there is no cross voting, two UDF candidates can easily win.
The Congress has decided to give another term to Rajya Sabha member PJ Kurian. The second seat has been given to Kerala Congress (Mani), which has fielded Joy Abraham.
The LDF has fielded senior CPI-M leader CP Narayanan, whose victory is assured. It has also fielded CPI leader CN Chandran.
In 2003, the UDF was shocked when K Karunakaran fielded a rebel candidate. After giving heartbreaks to many in the UDF, the two official Congress candidates won.
