Report on Malayalam University in Kerala submitted
Thiruvananthapuram: Kerala Chief Minister Oommen Chandy said on Wednesday that the cabinet would take a decision on state Chief Secretary K Jayakumar's report on the steps to be taken for setting up a Malayalam University in the state.

"The Government will soon take a decision on the report," he told reporters after receiving the report from Mr Jayakumar, appointed by the Congress led UDF government to study the possibility and recommend guidelines to set up the university.

The new University will be named after Thunchathu Ramanujan Ezhuthachan, known as the father of Malayalam.

Mr Jayakumar said his report had suggested that the government set up the University on 100 acres of land at Thirur in Malappuram district and also that it start functioning on November 1, the state formation day.

Among other things the report said the University should focus on research and study on linguistics, literature, cultural history, art, music tradition and social history of the state's rich cultural heritage.
