Thiruvananthapuram:
Union minister Shashi Tharoor's office in Thiruvananthapuram was attacked today by protesters who drove up in autorickshaws and threw stones at the building, also pulling down some boards.
Mr Tharoor has alleged that the attack is linked to the ongoing political war in Kerala over what is being called the solar scam. He tweeted soon after, "Goons of All-India Youth Forum, a CPI front, attacked my office in Thiruvananthapuram, smashed windows and damaged a citizen's motorbike."
The minister also posted pictures of the attack and tweeted that explosives had been thrown at the District Congress office in Thiruvananthapuram.
The opposition in Kerala want a judicial probe into ruling party Congress' alleged links to three persons who have been accused of cheating people by promising cheap solar panels and using the chief minister's name. The Left says the CM Oommen Chandy, who runs a coalition government with a razor-thin majority in the Assembly, must resign.
Mr Chandy told the state assembly today that, "We will not bend before a political conspiracy." Assembly proceedings were adjourned indefinitely after repeated disruptions by the opposition over the issue.
Yesterday, youth Congress workers had tried to barge into an Opposition leader's official residence.
