Delhi airport gets swanky new terminal; to open on July 3
New Delhi: The wait is finally over for those who spend hours waiting at the airport lounge to catch the connecting flight.

In the newly constructed building, the Delhi International Airport Limited (DIAL) has built around 100 transit rooms in the premises to facilitate the travelers.

"Earlier, either the passenger had to leave the airport or had to wait for long hours in the waiting lounge. Now, the rest rooms for such passengers have been constructed to ease their tiring journey," said a DIAL official.

Also, the rooms will have Wi-Fi connectivity along with other amenities."We are planning to provide these rooms on an hourly-basis instead of daily basis. Generally, the gap between the flights is for few hours and if someone wants to stay for a few days, one can easily avail the facility of rooms outside the airport as well," explained the official.

The DIAL authorities are leaving no stone unturned when it comes to experimentation. The new building toilets will now be theme-based.

In the new terminal, the DIAL instead of using traditional sketches to differentiate between gents and ladies toilets will now put up paintings displaying men and women dressed in different Indian costumes or at times of different countries.

Though charges of the rooms have not been chalked out yet, the rooms are said to be worked out considering different slabs. Majority of the rooms will be for general commuters and others to be reserved for VIPs.

Earlier, Delhi airport did not have transit rooms in either of the terminals, domestic as- well- as the international terminal. The passengers had to face great difficulties and had to travel for kilometers to get rooms, when their connecting flights had a gap of just few hours.

"The general practice is of providing rooms on a daily basis. In order to get a room in the vicinity of the airport, a passenger had to shell out huge amount of money. But now with this facility in place, a person will end up spending less and will not have to go outside the airport. It will be all for the convenience of the commuters," said another official.

The new terminal T3 has generated much public interest even before its inauguration.
